A Century of Defense: The History of Turkey’s Military Tank Logistics

Have you ever wondered about the evolution of military logistics technologies in the Republic of Turkey? From the production of the first armored models such as the M1943 to the present day, Turkey has designed a wide variety of armored vehicles and battle tanks, marking a century-long transformation in its defense.

This is the first Locally produced tank M1943. 

Known as the Kırıkkale Tank was developed by Turkish engineers and technicians at the Kırıkkale Military Factories during the early 1940s.

The first and great step for Turks in military logistics.

The Kırıkkale tank's specifications...

Engine: 4-cylinder, air-cooled, gasoline engine (approximately 90-95 hp) 

Chassis: Based on the Soviet T-26 light tank chassis.

Armament: Equipped with a 47mm main gun (some versions were planned with different calibers) and a 7.62mm machine gun.

Armor: Riveted and welded steel plates, ranging from 6mm to 15mm in thickness.

Top Speed: Approximately 30 km/h on road, and 15 km/h off-road.

Weight: Around 10 tons, categorized as a light infantry tank.

Crew: Designed for a 3-man crew (Commander, Gunner, and Driver).

The second one M60T Sabra Modernized Tank (🇹🇷&🇮🇱) 

The M60T Sabra is one of the most battle-hardened assets in the Turkish Land Forces (TSK) inventory. It represents a fascinating evolution: a classic American platform modernized with Israeli engineerin

​In the early 2000s, Turkey sought to modernize its aging M60A3 fleet. The result was the Sabra Mk2 (M60T), which transformed the original tank into a lethal powerhouse:

Firepower: 120mm MG253

Protection: The turret and hull were fitted with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and SLERA panels, designed to neutralize HEAT rounds and anti-tank missiles.

Engine: 1000 HP MTU Diesel engine

(the old American M60 tanks used 750hp engine but Turkish engineers Swapped with this powerful and economical diesel engine)

As of 2024, the "TİYK-M60T" (Enhancing Tank Capabilities) project replaced foreign components with domestically produced Turkish systems.
